“The Purple Pill” and Your Stomach
October 26th, 2008Acid stopping medications are the number one prescribed drug!! They work by stopping the production of acid by the cells in the stomach. This drastic decrease of acid raises the pH of stomach and interferes with normal and efficient digestion.
A pH of 2-3, which is very acidic, is needed to properly digest food, minerals and protein. Improper digestion allows the food to sit in the stomach, putrefy and rot resulting in systemic toxicity. High acid gastric juices are designed to sterilize our food, destroying unwanted parasites. Low acid gastric juices contribute to the degeneration of gastric mucosa which was designed to function in a high acid environment.
Initially these drugs were strictly controlled and limited to a 6 week period for ulcers and acid reflux. Now, they are given routinely for any length of time, for any GI disorder, and even to infants and children.
The real kicker here is that almost all people with acid reflux are not making too much acid but too little acid!!
Although your doctor may tell you that under stress, the stomach pumps out too much acid; the truth is that any physiology book will tell you that under stress, the digestion system slows way down. Eating your meals while driving, rushing, screaming at your kids, etc. actually slows down the digestion process and causes your food to just sit in the stomach and decay. This undigested, decaying food produces acids that tend to come back up – “Acid Reflux Disease” – rather than continue down the digestion tract. Although these medications may relieve the symptoms, they cause more problems “down the pike” by dumping poorly digested food into the colon. Now a new set of symptoms and medications can be applied.
My first step, always, is to clear up digestion. You can take the best supplements in the world, but if they are not being digested and absorbed, they are a waste of your money. We have excellent nutrition protocols to restore proper acidity levels and digestion so you can move on to a healthier you.
